I am a Bristol based registered paediatric Occupational Therapist working with children and young people experiencing difficulties in certain areas of their lives. I am HPC registered (certified by the Health Professional Council), and belong to the Sensory Integration Network and the British Association of Occupational Therapists.
Paediatric Occupational Therapy aims to support children and young people in maximising their social and practical participation in life and achieve age appropriate independence. The therapist works from a holistic perspective, involving parents and often school, while identifying and drawing on activities of interest for the child or young person through which to address areas of difficulty.
Therapy sessions may benefit children and young people experiencing difficulties in the following areas:-
- Fine motor – managing buttons, tying laces etc
- Gross motor – P.E./ play time and generalised clumsiness
- Core stability
- Maintaining attention
- Handwriting – slowness, letter reversals, incorrect letter formation, unnecessary capitalisations, floating letters
- Organisation – difficulty organising bag for the day or desk for classwork/homework
- Sensory processing
- Visual Perception
